Watts Live MQTT BLE Config

  • Windows
  • macOS
  • Linux
  • Python
  • MIT licensed

A desktop tool for setting up Watts Live energy meters. It scans for nearby devices over Bluetooth Low Energy, writes their MQTT broker credentials straight to them, and then — if you want — connects to that broker so you can watch the measurements arrive live.

The point is that you don't need a phone app to commission a device. Plug in, scan, write the config, confirm data is flowing, done. Once the meter is publishing, Watts Live for Home Assistant can pick it up.

It's a Python application built on Bleak for BLE, Paho for MQTT and ttkbootstrap for the interface, it runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, and it's MIT licensed. Prebuilt executables are attached to the GitHub releases if you'd rather not run it from source.

Key Features

  • BLE scanning to find and connect to nearby Watts Live devices.
  • Write MQTT settings — hostname, port, username and password — over Bluetooth.
  • Automatic topic subscription using the device's own serial number.
  • Live activity log showing connection state, write progress and incoming messages.
  • Dark interface with input validation, so a typo doesn't get written to the device.
  • Runs anywhere — Windows, macOS and Linux.

Requirements

  • Python 3.8 or newer, or one of the prebuilt releases.
  • A machine with Bluetooth LE.
  • An MQTT broker for the device to publish to.
